Mission Statement
AFROMICS aims to ensure African populations are represented in genomic research, driving inclusive healthcare innovations that benefit both Africa and the world.
Based in Cambridge, UK, AFROMICS is dedicated to developing an African biobank for 5 million people over the next decade which will include, genomic, MRI, clinical, phenotypic and demographic data.
By leveraging the genetic diversity inherent in African genomes, we aim to revolutionize disease diagnosis and treatment, ensuring equitable access to genomic-driven healthcare on a global scale.
As the founder population with the most genetic diversity, African genomes hold the key to better disease diagnoses, identification of new drug targets, and groundbreaking medical advancements. By ensuring the active involvement of African populations in drug discovery and research, we are fostering a future where genomic medicine is truly representative, inclusive, and impactful for all.
Our initiative is designed to reshape the future of genomic medicine, ensuring equitable healthcare solutions for African populations and the world.
Our Goals
Genomic Equity: Address the underrepresentation of African populations in global genomic databases.
Precision Medicine: Enable the development of targeted therapies, diagnostics, and risk prediction models for diseases prevalent in African communities and the world at large.
The Problem & Our Solution
Africa harbors the most genetically diverse populations in the world, yet remains vastly underrepresented in global genomic databases. This lack of representation leads to biased medical research, ineffective treatments, and misdiagnoses for African patients. By filling this gap, AFROMICS will not only drive scientific discoveries but also ensure that precision medicine benefits all populations, regardless of ancestry.
By championing African genomic research, we are unlocking the potential to transform healthcare worldwide. Ensuring African representation in genomic research is not just about equity, it is a necessity for truly effective and inclusive global healthcare solutions.
Through ethical research, innovative technology, and strategic collaborations, we are paving the way for groundbreaking medical advancements.
